Welcome!

I want to welcome everyone to the class. We'll be doing great things together this semester. At the same time we will be building upon the accomplishments of others. Yours is the third class that I have taught for the First Year Seminar that will partner with Dooky Chase Restaurant in a long-term goal of documenting life in the sixth, seventh, and eighth wards of New Orleans before the end of segregation.

We have already recorded six hours of interview footage for this project, capturing stories that would otherwise have been lost. Interviews like this one with Emile Evans:

Last year, we had an event in which students in my A404 edited interviews and showed segments to the general public. We called it "A Haven for All Of Us," a title given to us by one of our interviewees. This is a little promotional video we put out:
